This Time Next Year, Your Child Could Be Ready for Kindergarten
Right now, your child may still be learning how to recognize letters, write their name, follow directions, or sit through an entire story.
Maybe they still need a little help taking turns with friends. Maybe getting dressed, using scissors, or cleaning up after an activity takes some extra encouragement.
That’s okay. They’re learning.

Your child confidently walking into a kindergarten classroom. Writing their name on their paper. Recognizing letters and sounds. Listening to a story and answering questions about it. That’s what our Kindergarten Readiness program at Lakeview Childcare & Preschool is designed to do.
What Can Change in a Year?
Kindergarten readiness is about much more than knowing the ABCs and counting to 20.
We want children to enter kindergarten feeling capable, confident, and ready to learn.
Throughout the year, children build skills in areas such as:
📚 Early Literacy
Children work on letter recognition, letter sounds, phonics, vocabulary, listening skills, and early reading. They also have opportunities to practice writing and expressing their ideas.
✏️ Fine Motor Skills
Cutting with scissors, holding a pencil correctly, writing, coloring, tracing, and other hands-on activities help strengthen the small muscles children need for kindergarten.
🤝 Social-Emotional Development
Learning how to share, take turns, communicate with friends, work through disagreements, manage emotions, and participate in a group is a big part of being ready for school.
🧒 Independence & Classroom Skills
Children practice following directions, completing tasks, cleaning up, caring for their belongings, transitioning between activities, and becoming more independent with everyday routines.
And, of course, we make room for play, creativity, movement, curiosity, and fun along the way.
Because children learn best when they feel safe, supported, and excited to participate.
The Growth Happens Little by Little
One of the special things about working with preschoolers is seeing the small moments turn into big milestones.
At the beginning of the year, a child may need help writing their name.
A few months later, they're proudly writing it on their own.
At first, they may struggle to wait their turn during a group activity.
Eventually, they're reminding their friends, “It's your turn now.”
At the beginning, answering a question in front of the class might feel intimidating.
By the end of the year, they're raising their hand and excited to share what they know.
Those little moments add up.
And then suddenly, it’s May.
You’re watching your child celebrate with their classmates, and you realize just how much they've grown.
